Social Media & Publicity Associate
Shuman Public Relations seeks a full-time social media and publicity associate to join our boutique, New York-based public relations firm specializing in classical music and representing a roster of distinguished artists, ensembles, orchestras, opera companies, and music festivals.
This role offers a chance for a creative, self-directed individual to work in classical music public relations, collaborating closely with artists, presenters, and industry professionals. The position calls for strong interpersonal skills to support our clients’ immediate publicity needs while also contributing to long-range career and institutional goals through thoughtful public relations strategy and social media work. We’re looking for someone who exercises sound judgment and brings care to every aspect of their work.
Responsibilities include:
Planning, writing, and posting for various client social media channels
Social media content creation including basic graphic design and video editing
Collaborating with our clients’ concert presenters on shared posts
Managing and updating client and company websites
Sharing press releases and updating media kits
Managing media contact database
Working with client managers and maintaining client calendars
Monitoring and clipping media placements, and creating coverage reports
Coordinating and attending media events and concerts
Qualifications include:
2 years of similar experience, including work in social media, PR, and performing arts
Knowledge of and interest in classical music and opera
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once
Superior written, verbal, and overall communication skills
Strong awareness of general cultural trends and media
Ability to work well under pressure and on tight deadlines
Initiative as a team player who is professional, dependable, trustworthy, and an effective communicator
