Publicist
Shuman Public Relations (SPR) seeks a full-time publicist to join our boutique, New York-based public relations firm, specializing in classical music and representing a roster of distinguished artists, ensembles, orchestras, opera companies, and music festivals.
This position offers the opportunity for a creative and self-motivated individual to work in the classical music public relations field, collaborating with artists, presenters, and other industry professionals. The position demands outstanding personal qualities required to interact with clients and journalists. As we balance both the short term publicity objectives with the long term career and institutional objectives of our clients in the development and execution of public relations programs, we seek an individual capable of consistent good judgment and careful consideration of their work.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and effectively executing public relations programs and plans, pitching story ideas, and preparing appropriate presentations
Preparing written materials including compelling pitch letters, press releases, and media kits
Maintaining relationships with key national and U.S. media, and developing new leads and contacts for story placement on behalf of our clients
Maintaining good relationships with Shuman Associates clients and artists, and supporting their needs to promote their careers
Reporting our efforts to our clients
Contributing relevant content for company and client social media channels, and maintaining websites
Coordinating and attending media events and concerts, representing our clients and the firm
Qualifications include:
Prior publicity experience in performing arts public relations, with proven results in earned media coverage
Strong knowledge of and interest in classical music and awareness of general cultural trends and media
Superior writing, verbal, and overall communication skills
Instinctive organizational skills and acute attention to detail, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once
Ability to work well under pressure and on tight deadlines
Initiative as a team player who is professional, dependable, trustworthy, and an effective communicator
This is a hybrid position based in our office in New York City.

Salary Range: 50K-80K + Benefits package including health insurance, vacation, and concert and opera attendance.
